industrial design leads innovation

china relies on industrial design as the engine for innovation. this was the theme and conclusion of the did award which was presented in the chinese megacity dongguan in early december 2019. f/p design manager and industrial designer andreas huber accepted the personal invitation of the organizing committee of the did award and became part of the exclusive international team of jurors: “china’s industry has recognized that it is not only the further development of technology that is important for economic growth but that design also contributes significantly to the further development of trend-setting product and service innovations.”

the did award in 2019, also called “dongguan cup”, therefore had the motto “industrial design leads innovation”. in this international competition for industrial design, prizes are awarded in three categories. the organizers of dongguan had invited ralph wiegmann, president of the if international forum design co., ltd. to chair the jury, as well as a number of domestic and foreign design specialists as jury members, including andreas huber: “f/p design advises and supports chinese companies in the field of design. our human-centered design approach in combination with a reduced modern design aesthetic is very popular, which is great because it is always exciting for us to develop design for different markets.”

the winners of the dongguan cup were announced in a festive ceremony on december 6, 2019. the award ceremony is one of the highlights of the “dongguan cup international innovative design week” in the greater bay area. the aim of the event is also to combine design and industry, to offer ambitious designers a platform, and to further expand and strengthen the area around dongguan as a design center.
